President Appoints Two New Judges to Supreme Court

New Delhi, July 13, 2023 – President of India Droupadi Murmu has appointed two new judges to the Supreme Court. The two judges, Ujjal Bhuyan and S. Venkatanarayana Bhatti, are both Chief Justices of High Courts.

Justice Bhuyan is the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, while Justice Bhatti is the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court. Both judges are highly experienced and have a strong track record of judicial service.

The appointments of Justice Bhuyan and Justice Bhatti bring the total number of judges in the Supreme Court to 33. This is the maximum number of judges that the Supreme Court can have, according to the Constitution of India.

 

The appointments of Justice Bhuyan and Justice Bhatti are a welcome development for the Supreme Court. They are both highly qualified and experienced judges who will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the court. Their appointments will also help to ensure that the Supreme Court is able to continue to function effectively and efficiently.
