News Patiala: Another achievement has been added in the name of Government Rajindra Hospital. It has become the only government hospital in the state to perform open-heart surgery. Two surgeries have been performed by the hospital’s Department of Cardio-Thoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) as these surgeries are considered to be among the most complex surgeries. Both surgeries were performed by super-specialist cardiovascular surgeon Dr. They have been successfully performed by a team of doctors led by Anumit Bagga. It involved surgery on a 21-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman. After successful surgery, both patients are now perfectly healthy. Whose condition is now out of danger?
Dr. Anumit Bagga said the young boy was having difficulty in breathing while doing any physical activity, even in daily activities like brushing and dressing. Dr. Bagga said the patient had previously been diagnosed with valvular heart disease. Since then the disease has worsened in the last few months, after the surgery both the patient’s valves have been replaced with prosthetic valves. Dr. Bagga said the surgery was performed by stopping the heart function and placing the patient on a cardiopulmonary bypass. He said that the next day after the surgery the patient has seen excellent results and he has been shifted to the ward. Dr. Bagga further said that he has performed another open-heart surgery on a 62-year-old woman. The patient has had to have his valve replaced after he was diagnosed with mitral regurgitation. Both the surgeries were performed free of cost under the Lifelong India Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme, while one of the surgeries cost Rs 7 to 8 lakh in a private hospital. After the surgery, Dr. Anumit Bagga said both the patients are healthy and recovering fast. This has been made possible by the collaboration of the Government Medical College and the administration of Rajindra Hospital.
