Canadian Immigration Minister Sean Fraser gave new information about Canada’s immigration system today. He said that IRCC is making efforts to implement the pre-Corona epidemic system to remove the immigration backlog.
Fraser told Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) in Vancouver today about reducing the backlog of applications. Apart from this, he talked about the ongoing work to improve the client experience and overcome the labor shortage. As an immediate measure, they announced IRCC.
It will hire 1,250 new employees this year to speed up processing capacity and reduce backlogs. While efforts will also be made to make the system more efficient in the long run.
IRCC says the new recruitment will reduce the waiting time for applications. Express Entry programs will allow new applications to be processed at pre-pandemic levels, including a six-month service standard.
Record numbers processed between January to July 2022
IRCC welcomes 405,0000 new permanent residents to Canada in 2021. In there is a target of 431,000 in 2022 based on the immigration level plan. So far in 2022, 275,000 new permanent residents have arrived between January 1 and July 31.
In the same period, 349,000 new work permits were issued. These include 220,000 Open Work Permits (OWP). An OWP will allow permit holders to work anywhere in Canada in most occupations.
Study permit applications have also increased, with 360,000 permits finalized so far in 2022. This is 31 percent more than the total number of study permits issued during the same period in 2021.
IRCC will publish backlog data monthly.
Processing delays have been exacerbated by Canada’s response to humanitarian crises and updating aging technology to meet current demand, IRCC says. They report that at the end of July, across all lines of business, about 54 percent of applications in the system were longer than service standards. IRCC says it is currently aiming to process 80 percent of new applications within its service standards.
In the backlog, IRCC announced that it will publish monthly data on its website. Will share more information in the coming weeks about more measures being taken to improve the current system.
Overview of the Immigration Backlog IRCC’s backlog has tripled during the pandemic. CIC shows the latest IRCC data obtained by News. The backlog was about 2.7 million applicants. But, more recent figures released by IRCC today show that. The backlog has been reduced by 2.4 million applicants as of July 31.
IRCC also provided an update on how the Department defines backlog. its website notes. Applications processed within its service parameters are not considered part of the backlog. But, applications that are not processed within its service parameters are counted in the backlog.
IRCC’s service standards are standards set by the department for each line of business. For example, Express Entry has a service standard for permanent residence applications. which is being processed within six months.
