Beijing, January 17
China said today that its population declined for the third year in a row last year. China’s population was about 1.40 billion at the end of 2024, which is about 14 lakh less than last year.
On the other hand, in Asia, the population of Japan has been decreasing for the last 15 years while in 2021, South Korea recorded a decrease in population. In Italy, population decline was recorded for the first time in the 19th century when the population fell by around four million.
The United Nations said 63 countries and territories have peak populations. The United Nations said that within the next 30 years, 48 more countries will peak in population. The global organization said that the world population is currently 8.2 billion, which may reach 10.3 billion within the next 60 years and will start to decline thereafter. In many countries with declining populations, governments have begun to provide financial support to people to have children as the number of elderly people increases. – Ap
