A total of 5,500 new votes were created in 22 days in the New Delhi constituency: Kejriwal; The party made allegations of ‘fraud’
New Delhi, January 9
A party delegation led by Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal met the Election Commission on Thursday and expressed their ‘concerns’ about the alleged irregularities in the New Delhi constituency of the Delhi Assembly. The party highlighted the important cases of a large number of new votes being cast in the New Delhi seat and many votes being deleted, i.e. the names of the voters were cut from the voter list.
The party has alleged widespread ‘voter fraud’ in the constituency. Former Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal said that a total of 5,500 votes were registered in 22 days. He also claimed that out of 89 people who applied for removal of 5500 names from the voter list, there are 18 persons who have denied that they have made any such application.
Speaking to reporters after meeting the Election Commissioners here, Kejriwal said, “The Chief Election Commissioner is out, but we met the other two commissioners. One of the issues we raised was that a total of 5,500 votes were cast in 22 days, between December 15 and January 7, in the New Delhi Assembly constituency. The total number of votes in this assembly is 1,00,000. This means that 5.5 percent of the votes were cast in the last 22 days, which clearly shows some irregularities. There are problems with these applications.”
He said, “When the lower officials investigated, the persons whose names appeared on these applications denied having given any request for deduction of votes. 89 people had applied for 5,500 votes and 18 of them came to the Election Commission and refused to submit any application. This means there is massive electoral fraud.”
The AAP chief also alleged that 8,13,000 new voter applications were received from December 15 to January. He lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party and specifically targeted BJP candidate Parvesh Verma, accusing them of distributing money. They also objected to the health camps and job fairs announced by the BJP.
