Punjab News: Punjab government should not abuse the police, stand with us: Farmer leader

Amritsar, 30 December

Sarwan Singh Pandher, president of Sahind Kisan Morcha, on Monday appealed to the Punjab government not to misuse its power against the farmers and support their struggle. The farmers of Punjab have announced a state-level bandh on Monday. Under which road and rail traffic is also closed from 7 am to 4 pm.

The bandh by the United Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha is part of ongoing protests at Shambhu and Khannoori border points since February 13. Speaking to IANS, Sarwan Singh Pandher emphasized the strong support for the bandh and said, “Three crore Punjabis have joined this dharna and around 95 to 97 per cent of traffic across Punjab has come to a standstill.”

Pandher said that the guarantee of MSP is very important for the country’s economy and its farmers. Our demands include loan waiver, 200 days of work under NREGA, daily wages of Rs 700 and implementation of the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution.

It’s not just about farmers, it’s also about businesses being affected by online, privatization of education and healthcare and other issues. Criticizing the Punjab government, Pandher referred to past incidents like the Behbal Kalan shooting and urged them to support farmers instead of abusing police forces.

He said that the Punjab government should not misuse the police but should stand with the farmers. He said that the government will not fulfill our demands until the farmers and workers across the country are united. The people of Punjab are united today and putting a lot of pressure on the Modi government. IANS
