Imagine slipping out of your chair in a crowded meeting or saying the wrong thing to a new person. In such a situation, we often turn red with shame and are troubled for hours remembering that moment. But new research from the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology says that if you learn to laugh at yourself in that moment, it is beneficial for both your mental health and social image. In psychology it is called ‘self-deprecating humor’. This means laughing off your small mistakes. Train yourself for this. Experts say that people do not judge us on our mistakes as much as we think in our mind. On any mistake, tell your mind that if it does not harm anyone, then it is not a big deal. Such practice will also increase your self-confidence. In which situation not to laugh? It is okay to laugh at yourself only as long as your mistake does not harm anyone. If someone gets hurt or someone’s heart gets hurt because of you, then laughing there makes you look careless.
