LinkedIn: Professional networking platform LinkedIn has announced several new changes to improve its feed. These changes include initiatives like AI-based feed ranking system, strictness on automated comments and reducing posts that are useless or only increase engagement. The company says that the purpose of these updates is to show more useful and relevant content to the users and also to make the conversations on the platform more real and trustworthy.

AI will decide which post will be visible

LinkedIn has launched a new AI based ranking system for its feed. Generative AI models and large language models (LLMs) are being used in this so that the platform can better understand what the topic of a post is and what kind of content users are interested in.

This system will decide which post to show to which user by looking at various signals. For example, the information given in the user’s profile such as industry, experience, skills and location will also be taken into consideration.

It will also be seen which posts the users respond to and which they ignore. Based on all this information, the feed will adapt to the changing interests of the user over time.

Strict action on automated comments

LinkedIn has also taken steps to stop the increasing fake engagements on the platform. The company is now taking strict action against such tools and extensions which work to increase response to posts by automatically writing comments. According to the company, such automated comment tools are against the rules of the platform. Therefore, the system is being strengthened so that such activities can be identified and reduced and the conversation remains more genuine.

Engagement posts will be reduced

LinkedIn has also said that in the coming time, the reach of such posts will be limited whose purpose is only to increase likes, comments or shares. For example, posts in which people are asked to comment like ‘If you agree then write yes’ or unrelated videos are added just to increase the reach. Similarly, posts sharing similar views repeatedly may also be shown less. The company says that now priority will be given to those posts which contain industry related information, professional advice or useful discussion related to the workplace.

Better experience for new users

LinkedIn has also started a new feature to improve the experience of new users. Generally, to customize the feed, the platform takes help of the user’s past activities and profile data. But new users have less such information in the beginning. Therefore, an Interest Picker feature is being tested during sign-up in which users can choose topics of their choice such as leadership, job search skills or career growth.
