The Indian government has issued a high-risk security alert for Zoom users. Amidst increasing cyber attacks, video conferencing apps are now becoming the new target of hackers due to which personal data and confidential conversations can be put at risk.
Why did CERT-In issue the warning?
This warning has been issued by CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team), the cyber security agency of the Government of India. According to the agency, a serious technical flaw has been found in Zoom, taking advantage of which cyber criminals can send dangerous commands to a user’s device remotely. If the system is affected, the hacker can gain control over the device in the same way as its original owner.
How dangerous is this Zoom security flaw?
Zoom itself has placed this flaw in the Critical category. It has been given a CVSS score of 9.9/10 which makes it very serious. This weakness has been technically named CVE-2026-22844. According to reports, any meeting participant can run harmful commands on the server through the network, putting the entire meeting infrastructure at risk.
Which system of Zoom is having problem?
This problem is related to Zoom’s Node Multimedia Router (MMR) which manages audio-video in large and hybrid meetings. According to CERT-In, older versions of Zoom Node Meetings, Hybrid and Zoom Node Meeting Connector (before 5.2.1716.0) are vulnerable to this threat. As a solution, administrators have been advised to immediately update to the latest version.
