New Delhi- The day and date is slowly approaching when the market for cricketers will be decided, and the fortunes of many players may change. The IPL 2026 auction is scheduled to take place on December 16 in Saudi Arabia, and like all non-mini-auctions, the players make a lot of money. So, who will be the most expensive this year? And could a foreign player be the most expensive, as the likes of Andre Russell, Adam Zampa and Vian Mulder will surely be in the auction?

Also note that the IPL 2026 auction will also include Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, who is currently under investigation. Indeed, despite sitting out all of last season due to injury, he could be eyeing a record-breaking contract. Now, is it possible for him to break this record?

Cameron Green most expensive player?

6ft 6in tall Australian all-rounder Cameron Green may command the highest bid, but is unlikely to get the most expensive player tag. As per the IPL’s maximum fee rule, a foreign player’s salary cannot exceed ₹18 crore (₹18 crore), as teams have reported the unavailability of foreign stars for the entire season. If the bid exceeds the proposed amount, the proceeds will be used for the welfare of the players. The auction fee for any foreign player in the mini-auction will be lower than the highest retention price (₹18 crore) and the highest auction price in the mega-auction. If the highest auction price in the mega-auction is ₹20 crore (₹20 crore), the cap will be ₹18 crore (₹16 crore). If the highest auction price in the mega-auction is ₹16 crore (₹16 crore), the cap will be ₹16 crore, an IPL statement said.

How effective is Green’s game?

Meanwhile, talking about Green and his potential, he once earned a ₹17.5 crore contract with Mumbai Indians. That season, he scored a century and two fifties for the team, and also took 6 wickets. In total, Green has scored 716 runs and taken 16 wickets in 29 IPL matches. He is with the Australian team in the current Ashes series, and several big IPL teams are keeping a close eye on his performance.
