According to a report by news portal Politico, the US delegation is expected to be led by special envoy Steve Wittkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. The Russian side is likely to be led by Kirill Dmitriev, who is considered an ambassador for Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Trump administration, Ukraine and its European partners have been in intense discussions for several days. They want President Donald Trump’s proposal to be acceptable to all and end the war. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that a final proposal will be drawn up within days and then handed over to Russia.
Trump’s draft proposal, on the face of it, offers Ukraine NATO-like security assurances, but no agreement has yet been reached on territory won by Russia. Trump is pressuring Ukraine to give up the eastern Donbass region, as demanded by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
