NGT The administration is blowing up the orders of – Advocate Prabhjitpal Singh
Demand letter to ADC for action on felled trees near Gate No. 22 Phatak |
News Patiala: 30th June 2022
Hundreds of trees are being cut down and interlocking tiles are being laid along the bridge with gate number 22 of Patiala. Beneath the bridges were beautiful parks and grills.
Protesting against this, social activist and farmer leader Advocate Prabhjitpal Singh and his associates called on the ADC. A memorandum was handed over to Gurpreet Singh Thind seeking action against the culprits involved in illegal logging.
In this regard Advocate, Prabhjit Pal Singh along with Daljit Singh Chhina, Charanjit Singh Sahi, and Gurinder Singh said that these trees have been cut down by the administration without any thought.
Open NGT (National Green Tribunal) orders have been flouted while the government has issued strict instructions after the Corona Call that no green tree can be cut down.
On the one hand, the government is calling for global warming and urging social organizations, clubs, and people to plant as many trees as possible, but who is ordering the administration to cut down as many trees as possible?
Even if the market needed parking, the trees could be removed from the market with some planning. But, why are the houses leased by the residential houses? Hundreds of trees have been planted from the market to the gate and there was no shop. Even if for some reason the trees have to be removed, Patna is not an option. They could be relocated. The tree was supposed to be uprooted due to the rainy season but no official paid any attention to it.
There are many examples of such negligence. Trees are often planted to widen roads, but no new trees are planted to replace them. What is the significance of NGT if the administration continues to violate the orders of NGT?
It may be recalled that while the trees were being cut down yesterday, Advocate Prabhjit Pal Singh and his associates rushed to the spot and stopped the work in protest of the felling of trees. In this regard, he today sent a memorandum to the ADC. He requested Patiala to stop the work as soon as possible so that the remaining trees could be saved and the matter should be investigated and strict action should be taken against those found guilty.
