Pretoria: A horrific massacre has taken place in a hostel in the Soulsville township of Pretoria, the capital of South Africa. Three persons entered the hostel premises armed with guns and went on a rampage. These people targeted 25 people and fired indiscriminately, killing 11 people, one of whom was an innocent 3-year-old child. Most of the people who were shot died on the spot but the rest of the injured have been admitted to the hospital.
It is being told that around 4:30 am on Saturday three men entered the premises of the hostel with guns and targeted a group of men who were drinking. Without saying anything, the killers opened fire. Spokeswoman Athelanda Mathe said 10 victims died at the scene, while one died in hospital. According to the police, the deceased include a three-year-old child, a 12-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl. Fourteen others are being treated in hospital but their condition remains critical.
This incident, which happened about 18 kilometers from Pretoria, has shaken the entire country. The gunmen who carried out the massacre have fled and are being hunted. This is said to be the case with illegal liquor bars, also known as “shebeens”. Police spokesperson Mathe said that illegal bars are the main reason for the increasing violence. These bars operate without any regulations and often become centers of criminal activity, posing a major threat to law and order.
