The newly elected President of America, Donald Trump (donald trump) has said that India imposes high taxes on some goods of America and if this is the case, America will also impose additional taxes on Indian goods in return. Trump warned that India and Brazil are among the countries that impose higher taxes on certain American goods.
If this happens, trade between India and the US may be affected. Not only this, the tension in the already ongoing business relations between the two may deepen. Donald Trump had recently said, “If India imposes 100 percent duty on us, then we should also impose the same duty on their goods.” Naming countries like India and Brazil, Trump said that they impose more than 100 percent duty on American goods, while the US does not. This statement by Trump describes his trade policies, which he adopted during his first term of 2017-2021.
He made this comment in response to a question asked about a possible trade agreement with China. Trump said during a press conference at Mar-a-Lago, “If India takes 100 percent tax from us, will we not take anything from it in return. You know, they send bikes and we send them bikes. They charge us 100 and 200 percent tax. India and Brazil charge high taxes. If they want to take tax from us, that’s fine, but we will also take additional tax from them.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, nominated for the incoming Trump administration, said that the way he behaves, the same behavior will have to be adopted. It is worth noting that Trump said in his campaign during the presidential election in October that India imposes high taxes on foreign goods and if he becomes the president, he will also collect additional taxes.
