Kolkata:- Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, one of the most iconic cricket stadiums in the world, was hit by a fire on Wednesday night. The fire broke out in the dressing room of the stadium, which is scheduled to host five matches in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, including the semi-final.
The fire was caused by a short circuit and it took more than an hour for firefighters to bring it under control. The false ceiling of the dressing room was completely burnt and a lot of equipment and memorabilia of cricketers was also damaged.
The fire incident has raised concerns about the safety of the stadium ahead of the World Cup. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has assured that all necessary measures will be taken to ensure the safety of the players and spectators.
The CAB has also said that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
