News Patiala, July 27, 2023 – In a bid to ensure the welfare of animals and stop cruelty against them, the Punjab government has ordered that all pet shops and dog breeders in the state must be registered with the Punjab State Animal Welfare Board.

The notification in this regard will be issued soon, said Punjab Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian. He also directed the department officials to start the registration process at the earliest.
Khudian said that the registration of pet shops and dog breeders will help to ensure that these establishments are following the proper guidelines for the care and welfare of animals. It will also help to prevent cruelty against animals.
The minister said that the state government is committed to the welfare of animals and is taking all necessary steps to ensure that they are treated with compassion and respect.
